***Steps to Creating a Successful History Day Project***
Listed below are steps to creating a History Day project. Each of the link in the guide will open up a new page, where addition how-to guides and organizers are available.
***Remember, you are not alone in these steps! Please visit the UConn interns in the library (hours) and/or set up an appointment!***
- Understand the theme of History Day
- Pick a topic that is associated with the theme
- Begin researching, especially background information, to gain understanding of what your topic is about (make sure you are recording helpful sources in MLA format and why they are helpful in an annotated bibliography)
- Create a thesis statement (essentially an argument) to base your preliminary research findings and project on
- Research more in-depth. The difference between step 3 and step 5 is that now you know exactly what information you are looking for based on what your thesis statement is (make sure you continue to record sources for your annotated bibliography)
- After you have gathered enough information, create your presentation (paper, exhibit board, documentary, website, performance)
- Write a process paper
- Finalize your annotated bibliography
